What Our Volunteers Do

Volunteers are the heart of hospice care. At New England Hospice, you can choose a role that suits your interests and skills—whether it's working directly with patients and families, helping the office remotely, or supporting through education and communication.

Opportunities include Patient Companions, Hospice Phone Communications, Administrative roles, and more.

Volunteer Application

Volunteer Opportunities 

Patient Companion

  • Volunteers offer companionship through conversation, reading, music, games, or quiet presence. Scheduling is flexible to match your availability and the patient’s needs.
  • ​Want to become a patient companion? Apply now 

Hospice Phone Communications

  • Phone volunteers ​provide ongoing support to families through weekly or bi-weekly check-ins, offering guidance and connecting them to hospice resources during care and bereavement.​​
  • Want to become a hospice phone volunteer? Apply now

Administration

  • Administrative volunteers play a key role in supporting hospice care by running reports, assisting with office tasks, and contributing to quality assurance efforts. Help ensure seamless care behind the scenes!​ All remote!​

Education

  • Educational volunteers provide hospice education in-person or via Zoom on topics like end-of-life care, advanced directives, and grief, helping families, staff, and communities stay informed.

Other Opportunities

Pet Therapy
If your pet is certified in pet therapy or has passed the AKC Good Citizen Test 
Music Volunteer
If you are a music therapist or musically inclined and wish to provide this service to patients during in-person visits
Internships 
If you are interested in looking for an internship, please go to the internship tab and apply
Chaplain / Spiritual Support 
If you are a chaplain or spiritually involved person who wants to provide spiritual support to patients
Reiki Therapist
Must have an up to date reiki therapist certification legal in MA
Certified Massage Therapist
Must have an up to date massage therapy license legal in MA
