Interning with New England Hospice

Internship Opportunities

​There are endless opportunities as an intern for New England Hospice. This opportunity offers the ability to experience both the administrative and clinical aspects of the company. 

​New England Hospice is currently offering four different kinds of internships:

Remote / Social Media Internship:

The intern will work with the Social Media Manager and under the supervision of the Director of Volunteer and Social Media Services to raise awareness of New England Hospice and related topics like end-of-life care, grief, and support resources. Responsibilities include organizing 1-2 virtual events per month and developing special projects aligned with their interests and company needs.

The internship includes orientation, supervision, and goal-setting to create a meaningful project. The project, decided within the first 2-3 weeks, will be completed and presented by the end of the internship.
Qualifications:

Students must be able to work in a very flexible environment and be able to multitask. Students must have computer skills. 

This is an unpaid internship. 

Hours per Week:

Hours are flexible. We are currently asking for a commitment of 2-3 days per week.


Administrative Internship:

The intern will support office and ancillary activities related to patient care and develop a project aligning with their interests and company needs. After orientation and supervision, the intern will set goals and finalize a project within the first 1-2 weeks. The completed project will be presented to management at the end of the internship.

Students must be able to work in a very flexible environment and able to multitask. Students must have computer skills.

​This is an unpaid internship.
Hours per week:
​

Fall/Winter/Spring Internship: Coordinated with school scheduling
​

Summer Internship: 16 hours per week: Two 8 hour days - flexible

​Advanced Internship:

Every two weeks, the intern will attend an Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meeting in person or online. This will be followed by patient visits at nearby nursing facilities. These visits may include companionship, sitting vigil, or supporting patients and families.
​

The experience involves topics like coping, grief, disease education, and bereavement support. On off weeks, interns will write a one-page reflection on their experiences. Interns will receive supervision and support, progressing toward independent visits.

​*This intern will be reimbursed for their gas mileage on days of travel.

Students must have computer skills. Students must also have a car and be willing to drive.

​This is an unpaid internship.
Hours per week:

Fall/Winter/Spring Internship: Coordinated with school scheduling
​

Summer Internship: 16 hours per week: Two 8 hour days - flexible

​MSW Graduate Internship:

Students will manage a caseload of hospice patients, assessing end-of-life needs, including coping, grief, bereavement, and community referrals. They will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, provide care plan updates, and address psycho-social and bereavement needs.

​Assignments include supporting patients and families, running support groups, and bridging community resource gaps. Students will also shadow social workers and other disciplines to learn team-based care. Orientation and supervision are provided.


​*This intern will be reimbursed for their gas mileage on days of travel.
Qualifications: 
​
​Students must have computer skills. Students must also have a car and be willing to drive throughout Central, MA (Milford, Framingham, Northbridge, Worcester, Auburn). The area is flexible and can/will be broadened to work with each student.

​This is an unpaid internship.
Hours per week:
​

Hours are flexible, and we will work to meet the program's field placement requirement. 
​​
